The idea I had originally for the  Hanlon books was originally for a Dirty Harry style police woman who, like the Clint Eastwood hero, would be a woman of few words and basically cut a swathe through the bad guys. Then other characters, notably her devoted side-kick, Enver, appeared. She is on the side of the Angels, but ruthlessly violent. There is a Japanese film called 'Violent Cop' starring Beat Takeshi that more or less captures the spirit and feel that I wanted to portray.
